Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park Brings Midsummer Back to OKC
OKLAHOMA CITY – Did you miss Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream because of June rain? Well, you are in luck. The state’s premier classical theatre company will bring Midsummer back beginning July 26 at 8 p.m. at the Myriad Gardens’ Water Stage.
Set in a magical forest, Midsummer is deceptive, silly and unnerving as it unleashes the forces of the madman’s, poet’s and lover’s imaginations. One of William Shakespeare’s best-known plays, the production will benefit from the botanical surroundings at the Water Stage and bring entertainment to the entire family. The show has received rave reviews from local critics.
“Magnificently directed by Kathryn McGill, the show moves at a nice pace, having action and laughs enough to maintain the interest of even the youngest audience members. With wonderful costumes by Dottie DeLeon and a fine set by Christopher Domanski, the show proves to be a wonderful family outing for a summer evening. The new home for this group would seem to be a perfect venue.” Bob Smith, Edmond Sun Theatre Critic
The repertory summer season runs through Sept. 1, and includes productions of Cyrano de Bergerac and Macbeth. Remaining production dates for shows are as follows:
- A Midsummer Night’s Dream – July 26, 28 and Aug. 3, 30.
- Cyrano de Bergerac – July 27 and Aug. 2, 4, 31.
- Macbeth – Aug. 9-11, 16-18, 23-25 and Sept. 1.
Summer season tickets are $25; single summer season admission tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students, senior citizens and children 12 and under. Tickets are available at the box office on the night of performance beginning at 7 p.m. Group rates are available for 10 or more.
