RICHARD III  Shakespeare’s stunning portrait of Machiavellian genius spins a spider-like folktale web, full of rollercoaster lurches and plunges, about the murderous quest for absolute power and the moral demise and military downfall of England’s notorious Richard III. At the end of the bloody Wars of the Roses between the rival Houses of Lancaster and York, the victorious Yorkists look forward to a period of peace under the newly-crowned Edward IV. But Edward's younger brother, Richard, Duke of Gloucester, has other ideas. Deformed and jealous, Shakespeare’s Richard is a villain who plans to get the throne for himself through seduction, betrayal, murder or any means necessary.
